A study claims to demonstrate the huge contribution the butt has made to civilisation. The bottom it seems has been prominent at every turning point in society and art history from the ancient civilisations right up to Grace Jones. In France the bottom, thighs and loins are termed "Les Fesses". The authors of "La Face Cachee des Fesses" (The hidden side of the Bottom) claim that Les Fesses speak of the foundations of our society, in the literal and metaphorical sense. When we talk about Les Fesses we are talking about ourselves, who would have thought "Nice Arse" was a profound statement!
Gluteus Maximus enabled bipedal locomotion, on two feet. The buttocks size and strength developed to fulfil the human need of erect posture and walking. Sadly when we gave up moving on all fours, sad and unfortunate men, could no longer tell when the female was fertile (I bet we couldn't tell before either). Happily this led to the rise of the breasts, the buttocks and the art of seduction. Oh yes that simplified everything didn't it just!. French artists, it is claimed, have marked history above all others with their talents for depicting the Derriere and the French have a special relationship with this part of the body as demonstrated by Brigitte Bardot in the film Le Mepris when she asks, naked, "and my bottom, do you love my bottom" Don't you just love a daft question! Here you will find a collection of Les Fesses from Cumbria.
